• Live the story

  • Live the art

  • Live the music

our mission

The Opera Makers exist to produce opera that grabs you - whether it makes you laugh or cry - opera that allows you to lose yourself and live the story.

The servant mistress

Supported by The Fenton Arts Trust, The Leche Trust and Arts Council England, The Opera Makers created a radical new take on Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona. Following a week long R&D in partnership with London Punch & Judy and The Little Angel Theatre, we shared our work-in-progress with over 30 children from the local community in Canonbury.

We are currently actively seeking partnerships with schools and music hubs as well as further funding to bring this piece to primary schools throughout the UK.

What if the entire company had a stake in the creation of each opera?

masterclasses

Experience opera from behind the curtain as the world’s greatest singers guide talented emerging artists through their favourite arias and songs. Hosted in exclusive central London venues with a light brunch and bubbles included, these intimate events are a wonderful way to reconnect with music and to meet the stars of the future.

In May ‘22 we were lucky enough to introduce the phenomenal Susan Bullock to our exclusive audience; and in Autumn we hosted our inimitable and glorious patron, Della Jones.

emerging artists…

As part of our commitment to Emerging Artists during the pandemic The Opera Makers hosted a masterclass with our wonderful Patron, Della Jones.
featuring: Joana Harries,  Heejun Kim, Milena Knauß  &  Flora MacDonald

It was really special to be invited to sing in the Opera Makers masterclass with Della Jones. Particularly in this current moment when performing opportunities are so incredibly limited.

Turandot

This summer, in partnership with Ellandar Productions, The Opera Makers produced a radical adaptation of Puccini’s Turandot. This landmark production was the first outside of Asia to feature an entirely ESEA cast. The show was funded by Arts Council England and Cockayne Grants for the Arts.

This Turandot is an innovative, challenging and moving presentation of a great opera, a production that returned it to the people at the heart of its story.” - Broadway World, 4*s

It's a genius concept, where Marriott and Sharuzuddin rip up Puccini’s opera and burn it right in front of you. And it’s exactly what this stereotype-filled piece needs.” - All That Dazzles

“Witness the spellbound audience not moving in the 90 minutes with no empty seats in the auditorium.” - North West End, 5*s

Hopes & fears

Created with the help of Shine Cancer Support, a charity working with those who experience a cancer diagnosis in their 20s, 30s or 40s, this powerful new opera uses some of Debussy’s most beautiful music to tell the stories of two women on a cancer ward. Orchestrated by award winning Panaretos Kyriatzidis, and with a new libretto by Olivier Award nominated opera adapter, Becca Marriott, this promises to be a deeply moving show..
